Kings Island During COVID

Growing up in Cincinnati, having a Kings Island Pass is a must. I’ve had a pass for as long as I can remember so this past summer was no different than the rest…until COVID hit. We had already purchased our passes for the season, but thankfully Cedar Fair extended all of their season passes until 2021. Not only did they extend passes, but they also extended the dining and drink plans. (Which I highly recommend if you can make at least one trip per week)

Now, this past season we didn’t ride any of the rides because we were trying to stay as socially distanced as possible. Instead, we spent most of the time walking around the park and eating with our dining plan. The park had been practically empty all summer long. We opted not to ride rollercoasters because at that point we were unsure of how safe it would feel to be in close proximity of other riders, but they were spacing out riders. Kings Island was trying their absolute best to follow all protocols to make sure all guests were as safe as possible.

Last year, you were required to wear a mask the entire time, but they did have cooling zones where you could take off your mask and breath for a little bit. (You were also able to take off your mask while eating and drinking). It did become very hot throughout the day so it was extremely important to stay hydrated.

Each time that we arrived at the park they took our temperature, asked a few questions regarding symptoms , and then we were free to go through security and into the parks. I am curious how these rules will change throughout 2021 as cases continue to decline.

We are looking forward to the 2021 Season. Kings Island will be opening on Saturday, May 15th to the public, however; if you are a passholder there will be a preview weekend on May 8th and May 9th. Last season the water park wasn’t operating, but this year it is expected to open on May 29th. We cannot wait to go to back into the parks. Will update this post on our next visit.

Stay safe and stay healthy!
