The Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake
My husband and I love taking weekend trips to explore new places. We especially love when we stumble upon charming places in our home state of Ohio. In May, we had the opportunity to go up to Northern Ohio and stay at the Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake. The Lodge is absolutely stunning, overlooking Lake Erie. This is the perfect destination if you are looking for some rest and relaxation.
We checked into our room around 4 PM. The room was nice and spacious. From our balcony we had an exceptional view of the lake. This resort is within walking distance to the hustle and bustle of Geneva on the lake, which has tons of restaurants, bars, and things to do! The resort offers shuttles to many of the wineries around the area. I can see this location being perfect for a romantic weekend getaway, a fun girls weekend, bachelorette parties, and much more.
Driving Distance to Geneva, Ohio
Cincinnati: 4 Hours 30 Minutes
Columbus: 2 Hours 55 Minutes
Cleveland: 56 Minutes
We spent most of the afternoon exploring the grounds. We took a walk along the paved trail down to “The Strip” at Geneva on the Lake. This was a little less than a mile away. Typically you can rent bikes and ride those along this trail, but unfortunately that was closed during our stay. The paved trail ran alongside the lake, there were quite a few benches set up along the pathway so you could sit and watch the waves go by.

Relax at the Pool
The hotel has both an indoor pool and an outdoor pool
(Each pool has a hot tub. The outdoor was under construction during our visit in May, but it’s expected to open in July. It looks like its going to be very nice.)
Cottages at the Lodge
The Lodge at Geneva has 109 rooms and suites along with 25 lakeside cottages available to book. There are three different cottages available to book; Standard, Deluxe, and Premium. Each cottage offers a spacious king bedroom, a queen bedroom, a living room with a small kitchenette, and a bathroom. We did not go inside the cottages, but we definitely want to book a family trip at the cottages next time. Check out The Lodge At Geneva`s website for more details about the cottage.
Dinning
We invited our family to join us for dinner at Horizons, the restaurant on property. Dinner is served from 4-11 PM. Horizons was a super nice restaurant, offering both indoor and outdoor seating. There was a wide variety of options on the menu to choose from. Due to COVID we decided it would be best to eat outside. From the patio you could take in all of the views. I ordered the Geneva Burger and Caleb ordered the Grilled Chicken Sandwich. Everyone really enjoyed their meal.
For breakfast we ate at Horizons again. They serve breakfast from 8-11 AM. This time was just the two of us and we both ordered the Three Egg Omelette, which came with potatoes. It was super breezy this morning, so I ordered a hot chocolate to warm up. Although it was cold, I didn’t mind because it was very relaxing.
We spent the evening watching the sunset. Our room overlooked the lake and we had the most perfect view to take in the sunset on the water! It was really cool because everyone else was also watching the sunset. Some were watching from their room, others were watching from the gazebo, others were watching from the trail or the benches along the trail. It was such a romantic way to end the night. After the sun set we walked down to the Fire Terrace to warm up. There was a lot of people there, but we did find a seat and sat by the fire for a little bit.
Watching the Sunset from our balcony
Ohio has so many beautiful places, you just need to do a little digging to find them! If you are looking for the perfect R&R destination alongside Lake Erie, I highly recommend booking your stay at the Lodge at Geneva on the Lake.
