Armstrong Air and Space Museum
Wapakoneta, Ohio
As a child I was really into space exploration, so going to the Space Museum was on my childhood bucket list. Unfortunately, we never had the time to make the trip, but as an adult I decided it was time to complete that childhood goal and finally go. The Armstrong Air and Space Museum is about 1 hour and 45 minutes north of Cincinnati in Wapakoneta, Ohio. Which just so happens to be where world-renowned astronaut Neil Armstrong is from. Many of the artifacts at this museum were donated from the family members of Neil Armstrong.
Tickets vary in pricing based on age. 5 and under are FREE, 6-12 are $6.00, Adults are $10.00. There is special pricing for veterans, those over 60, and OHC/Museum Members. With the virus there are special protocols such as mask wearing, keeping socially distant, limited capacity, and the Apollo 11 documentary was unable to be shown at the Astro-Theater. This museum is extremely quaint, but well worth the price of admission.
The employees are super knowledgeable about both Neil Armstrong and the history of space travel. An employee named Logan was so kind to give us a tour of the museum. We learned so many interesting things. Sometimes we truly take for granted how much teamwork it took to send a man to the moon. There were thousands of scientists, engineers, and many businesses who worked together to make the mission a success. One of the most fascinating things we learned about Neil Armstrong was that his true passion was actually aviation and this passion was instilled in him as a child. This museum is rich with history, I definitely left feeling inspired.
I highly recommend taking a day trip out to Wapakoneta to visit the museum. It took us about an hour and a half to walk through. If you are traveling from Cincinnati, I would suggest on your way back home to check out the National Museum of U.S. Air Force in Dayton, Ohio.
